What does every mother want? She wants her child to be safe and happy. This is not a constant desire, every moment of every day, seven days a week, but at least once, between the hour she first knows she’s pregnant and the moment of her last breath, that is what she wants.

I can’t help but believe that even the “worst” mother has, at some unguarded moment, this desire. It may be in her own childhood, long before she has a child, or many years after things have turned out otherwise. We all want safety and happiness for ourselves, and I firmly believe we all want that for at least one other person in our time on this earth, even if only for a few fleeting seconds.
