The crab (a poem of questionable merit)

I’ve molted again
split open and squeezed out
from a life too small
the new carapace hardens
thicker and tougher than before
claws larger, grip stronger
more of a mouthful, not such easy prey
maybe I’ll be bolder
just hope I’ll be lucky enough to live
to molt another day

This poem is so insightful. None of that caterpillar to beautiful butterfly scenario which is so false. This one is honest.

Thank you for your comment! I was feeling crabby the day I wrote it, and the day before I had cleaned the crayfish tank: a very crustaceous synchronicity, and one I could not pass up.

  2. Ok, when you can relate to crabs, check out the Morrigan – ever an inspiration for living to another day and the power of crabbiness.

Thank you for reading this post and for commenting. I never thought of crabs as relating to the Morrigan, but it’s a pretty natural and obvious connection once it’s been pointed out. Thanks for doing so!
