I think this poem will ultimately need a lot of revision, because it doesn’t come near to expressing how positively dumb-struck I was by the realization that inspired it.

Day 8, LexPoMo 2020
It’s odd what will trigger a poem: I read something this morning that included the phrase memento mori, and after a full day of meetings and other work, this bubbled up.
Day 7, LexPoMo 2020
Sundays are usually my day off from everything remotely work-like, and I pretty much expected I would not write or post today. And then this idea popped into my head. As my grandmother always used to say, There’s no rest for the wicked.
Day 6, LexPoMo 2020
It’s Saturday, so I feel kind of lazy, but I also want to write, so I decided to play around with a new (to me) poetic form, using words from a rather lovely (and unexpectedly uplifting) tarot post by fellow gardener/crocheter/poet Colleen Chesebro.

Day 5, LexPoMo 2020
It’s weird what comes to me when I sit quietly and let my thoughts spool out as they will. An observation on my writing style by a fellow poet led me down this little rabbit hole.
Day 4, LexPoMo 2020
Current events, movies I’ve seen, books and articles I’ve read, and conversations I’ve been having all have me thinking about a lot of things. While walking the dog this morning, I had a realization that led to this poem.
Day 3, LexPoMo 2020
I am a great fan and long-time reader of Smithsonian Magazine because it offers so much: beautiful writing, brilliant images, and fascinating stories about science, culture, and history from all over the world. I’ve found inspiration (and words) for many a poem in those shiny, colorful pages.

Day 2, LexPoMo 2020
I’ve been working my way through Stephen Burt’s The Poem is You for a couple of months now. It has been difficult to focus, between everything going on in the world and my own anxiety, but two or three pages of a poem and commentary have been just enough. For reference, this poem is taken from comments on p. 155.

Day 1, LexPoMo 2020

June is Lexington Poetry Month, and each year since its inception, local small presses have sponsored an online community of writers to celebrate.
And so it begins…

Redirecting
Find a headline or story that is good
news, a very small silver lining.
Dive deep into the possible
implications; imagine all the neighbors
were helping. What happens
when this explodes into goodness?
It changes the course of everything.
